The fastest becoming addictions today is definitely online poker. Millions of people log into the Internet to play poker online for many different countries every day. Online gambling’s positivity and negativity is a long debated topic between many scholars. Before making any assumptions on online poker you should certainly read both positive and negative factors of it.
Firstly you will have to understand that online poker and online casinos or gambling are completely different things. Online poker has the most people active on it than any other internet gambling games. These people from different parts of the World bring different competitiveness in to online poker because of winning mentality. They enjoy playing poker for competition and also fun. Being a part of any competition will give you the will to win. Because of this their thinking will also improve in other fields. Let’s say if someone who has a competitive nature joins the poker room with someone who doesn’t have that much of a competitive nature then what happens. Having this competitiveness other person would want to win too so it will help them improve their nature in competing.
This is a positive point but if someone keeps going online to play poker in a daily basis then it can change into a negative thing. People who are strong within themselves can easily restrict themselves from playing online poker regularly and not getting addicted to it. This definitely depends on a person’s mental strength if it is strong enough to not get too addicted towards online poker.
There are many online poker websites which provide great deals on full tilt rakeback or absolute poker to attract people to play in a regular basis. People addicted to online poker will definitely get attracted to the deals but people who are mentally strong can restrict themselves or stop themselves from going to the Website. Looking at the positive effect it definitely sharpens the mental ability. Calculating, sensing the moves of other people, when to stop and when to move forward can help in improving the mental senses.
New Texas Holdem players must learn a variety of tips, theory, and strategies to become great poker players. There are only a total of three skill levels a player can ever be at – the fish, or new player, the piranha, or amateur player, and the shark, or semi-professional / professional poker player. I’ve been playing poker on and off for several years now but in no way claim to be a shark. I’m still in the piranha level myself, where the vast majority of poker players are. To move from piranha to shark you must play, learn, read, and study almost all aspects of the game from theory to betting patterns. Thanks to the internet, poker players can now gain much more experience in a much shorter period of time. Players can play about 120 hands in an hour on a single table, whereas live you’ll see maybe 20 hands in the same amount of time. However, internet poker players will never be prepared for the facial expressions or adrenaline levels that come with live play, without playing live themselves.
The most important skill for a beginning poker player is to learn what hand beats what. If you don’t know the hand rankings you’ll be calling when you should be folding and folding when you should be calling. After you know what beats what you can move into the realm of hand selection. When you’re starting off you are going to want to play only a limited amount of starting hands before loosening up your play. Why you ask? When you are first starting off, you do not have all the knowledge required to make advanced bets, how to represent strength or weakness, or how to pick up information from your opponents. If a player tries to play 5 4 suited often from early position their bankroll is going to suffer. If a player learns when and how exactly to play 5 4 suited this simply becomes another hand to add to the arsenal. When you’re starting off you do not want to create a series of bad habits. Winning a few lucky pots early on may make you feel as though you know what you’re doing, but it will cause massive swings in your bankroll as you continue on as a poker player. Learning the nuances of the game is much more important than winning a few lucky pots early on.
After a player has become comfortable folding, its time to move on to table position. Each player at the table is in a certain position relative to the dealer button and blinds. Early position players are Each position at the table comes with disadvantages as well as advantages. Late position players are able to collect much more information from their opponents in terms of hand strength because everyone has to act before they do. This can allow the late position player opportunities to steal pots, as well as an opportunity to fold when behind without having to invest any more chips into the pot. Early position players on the other hand have to be much more selective with the hands they play as they have absolutely no information on their opponents hand strength. However, being that it is common knowledge to only play strong hands from early position, the occasional raise from early position can make a weaker hand appear to be much stronger, giving the early position player an opportunity at stealing the pot.
Middle position players are actually in the most difficult spot at the table. They can play slightly looser as they know what early position is going to do, but are left at the mercy of those in late position. Trying to chase after straights or flushes can get expensive if you have a bully to your right. However, having passive players to your right can turn middle position into a power position as you can force passive players to fold.
Identifying playing styles and betting patterns is critical to the success of any poker player, live or online. There are 4 basic categories a player can fall into – tight passive, tight aggressive, loose passive, and loose aggressive. Each group plays their hands differently and your game will have to be adjusted to your opponents style of play. Tight passive and tight aggressive players both have a small list of starting hands that they’ll play compared to their loose counterparts. Tight passives are content with calling, slow-playing and even folding. Tight aggressive opponents on the other hand are much more likely to raise, or even re-raise pots when they believe they have a strong hand. Loose passives are more inclined to call bets than bet themselves, whereas loose aggressors bet often to confuse their opponents on current hand strength. By identifying your opponents betting patterns and table style, you can better identify when to bet and when to fold.
Once you’ve mastered these Hold Em secrets and many other hold em tips you’ll be ready to move on to bigger pots and against better opponents.
1. Call
That’s correct. To call in poker may be a fatal mistake for most of the novice Texas Hold’em players. To call is a normal thing but most of the beginner poker players do it wrong. Generally they call because they are uncertain as they just don’t know what cards the player who put the first bet has. If you feel scared in situations like that or if you just not sure you have good cards then maybe better fold or just don’t play poker at all. To call is generally a vain approach. The most frequent actions you will want to take is to either bet or to raise. Secondly calling is mainly used as a strategic approach in the cases when you aim to save money, but not to call just with the single aim that you hope to make a stronger hand if some given cards happen to be drawed in the later stages of the turn. I.e. In case you got strong cards and you are convinced you have a big chance to win then you better raise or bet. Here are a few good reasons why you should proceed like that:
- If you aim to bluff so you can discomfit the other players.
- In case you want to make sure there will be at least a few more players that will probably call or raise after you.
Don’t get used to call. Play aggressively and provoke your opposers all the time. That is the usually how the money gets earned in Tehas Hold’em.
2. Place high wagers in the early stages of the play.
To Play Hold’em poker with high or medium bets may be really emotive as you can feel the shivers. To take the pot in Poker with $5 or $10 bets is quite exciting in case you haven’t played with that big money before. To move to the higher stages of betting can be really tempting but can happen to be a very big mistake in the same time. If you rush in the game too fast then the likelihood for you lose your money is quite high as Texas Hold’em is a game of abilities and takes time.
Playing a small limit Texas Hold’em might be quite unattractive but if you realize it is hard for you to win even there then you better don’t move to the upper level! I can guarantee that if you can’t win in a low limit Texas Hold’em then it will be really hard for you to win in a game with high or no limits. Once you sit on a $5/$10 table you will find yourself among a group of advanced gamblers who have skills and aren’t doing what they do just for fun. So my advice is that you should gradually move from tables with small blinds to tables with higher ones. You don’t have to hurry up. Take your time and improve your skills. You will later have time to go to tables with bigger bets when you will have better chances to win and feel the beauty of this wonderful game.
3. Bluffing
Bluffing is a technique in some casino games like for example poker which the gamblers use to fluster their opponents. The idea is of course to earn money but there is a problem with this tactics in low level games. There is no need to try to provoke your opponents as the majority of them are weak players and bluffing just doesn’t work well. Of course there might be some cases when bluffing can be an appropriate approach but you have to mostly play aggressively and leave bluffing. Just set aggressive bets when you see you have powerful hands and high chances to win. Bluffing is important but mostly for higher level games. As more professional the tables become so more essential bluffing becomes. So at the beginning start on small limit tables and leave bluffing for later!

As you may have noticed or most likely lived through if you play poker is that no matter what you do, you will have a short stack at one point or another in your career. Maybe it is simply because you have lost a big hand. Anyways, an important tool in any professional’s arsenal is knowing how to play a short stack.
Most players will tell you that when you get a short stack, well then it is almost time to throw in the towel. However on the contrary to popular belief this is the time to play your best. Even though you are below average at this point you do have options!
A prime example of this is professional player Jack Strauss who came to win the WSOP Main Event after being down to just one single chip. This is where many believe the poker motto “Just a chip and a chair” came from. So like Jack, instead of giving up there are a few tips that you can use to take your game to the next level even when your 11.5 Gram Poker Chips have seemed to disappear.
Most importantly when you have a short stack is to wait for a decent hand. This is simply not the time to be chasing suited connectors. You are looking for hands that are likely premium before the flop and remain strong after the flop as well.
The next thing is to go All In! One of the most powerful weapons you can use while you have little to no poker chips is to bet them all. This lets everyone at the table know you are serious about your hand. Now if everyone folds, great since this should be your main goal. However is someone does call, this is where your decent hand should be strong enough to withstand a shaky board.
Another important fact is to be the first person to act at the pot. It is a lot scarier if you go all in first, than if someone raises and then you go all in. In fact this also increases their chances of calling since they might believe you are just making a move.
Most of all you want to avoid the big stacks at the poker table. These are the players that are more likely to call because your small amount of Clay Poker Chips just will not do much damage to their incredible amount of chips. Instead you want to target other short stacks, and average sized stacks. Other short stacks are looking to find a premium hand as well before they push so if they did not find one, which chances are they won’t they will instantly fold their cards. Average sized stacks as well have to be careful with their chips. The will think twice before calling your all in call, simply because they don’t want to lose themselves.
To make your game better, try to adjust your strategy to your chip stack. If you are just below average there is no reason to drastically change your style. On the other hand, if you only have one big blinds left, it is time to widen up your “premium hands” range. The last thing in a tournament that you want to do is ante yourself to death. When you become really low, just about any face card will do the trick.
So the next time you are on a short stack remember these tips. As well think about Jack Strauss, and who knows maybe you make a comeback.

Once you understand advanced Texas Holdem tips you’ll start taking down pots you never thought were possible. When a player is trying to make the transition from amateur to skilled player, they understand that the cards in front of them mean less than what cards your opponents are holding but don’t exactly know what to do with the information. Semi pros and professional poker players take advantage of all the information presented to them to steal pots away from their unsuspecting opponents. The cards in your hand really don’t mean anything, what matters is whether or not your opponent actually has a hand worth playing.
The first step of learning how to accurately gauge your opponents hole cards is by putting them on a range. Once you understand your opponents range you can determine whether or not a bet would have a positive or negative outcome. If you know your opponent only stays in the pot when he has a made hand, such as a strong pair, straight, or flush and the board isn’t currently displaying any of those options you know a bet can, in most cases, give you the pot. Now if you know your opponent likes to chase after straights or flushes and you see four to a straight or flush on board and he calls, you know you’re in the lead until you see the fifth card they need to make their hand.
Trying to read loose aggressive players can be more difficult than reading tight players but it can also be done. Pay attention to the pots you aren’t involved in and see what your opponents turn over. Each time an opponent wins a pot, that’s more information for you on how they play. Make use of the notes system to ensure you know how each player likes to play.
Determining their hand range will give you a broad idea of whether or not they’ve hit on the flop. You’ll be able to make educated guesses on whether you should stay in the pot or surrender. With each additional pot that’s played, you’ll be able to pinpoint more accurately their hand range. You’ll know which players trap, which players bluff, and which players only stick around with a strong hand. This will let you know when a bluff or semi-bluff will be effective, and when you stand no chance of winning.
If you’re playing against a loose aggressor you need to have at least a pair to stick around and bet at them. The semi-bluff may work at giving you better implied odds in the hand, but to secure the victory you’ll either have to hit your draw or hope your pair holds up. Pre-flop raising also won’t help you accurately determine a loose aggressors range, as they’ve been known to call with a variety of hands just to throw you off.
When faced with a tight aggressive player, if they call your flop bet you may want to slow down if you aren’t holding a strong pair. In most cases if they’re calling they’re ahead, unless they’re planning on setting you up for a move on the turn. Again, you’ll have a good idea on whether or not they’re making a move if you’ve been paying attention to how they’ve played previous hands.
Texas holdem strategy is all about paying attention to what your opponents are doing. The more you pay attention, the better chance you have at winning more pots. Read as many poker tips as you can to improve your game.
Attention all poker players. It is time to ditch those worn-out rookie habits before they send your 11.5 gram poker chip across the table. I’m going to share with you today the top ten mistakes that make you stand out as a rookie at the poker table.
The number ten reason everyone at the table thinks you’re a rookie is because you bluff way too much. Many rookies watch way too many movies and then think if the just keep bluffing, they will keep winning. They will see a pro like Gus Hansen bluff on the World Series of Poker with 7-2 off suit and somehow think they can do it too. The rookie will tend to miss the three hours of play that lead up to this bluff. The large flaw in this style of play is that early in the game everyone knows that you love to bluff. Then your style is just shot down over and over again.
Right next to that is the fact that many untrained rookies do not have the patience to play poker. If you play poker correctly, you’ll often find that you will be waiting around a lot for a decent pair of cards. Pros will wait it out, while rookies will go ahead and play cards that they know they shouldn’t just for the sake of playing poker. If you are doing this then simply put all your clay poker chips in a package and just airmail straight across the table.
Next, the most advertised rookie mistake is playing limits they cannot afford. There is nothing in the game of poker that breaks your confidence faster than this. By doing this you will find yourself thinking about other things like a mortgage, and this my friend takes up space in your head that should be concentrating on playing poker. There is simply no way to continually go positive playing poker when you have to worry about how you will get to work if your card doesn’t hit the river. So my words of advice are “get out now”!
Another mistake that many don’t hear about that often is drinking while playing. If you are playing poker you need all your mental strength focused on your game. You’ll find that yourself making dumb moves that you wouldn’t have made if you didn’t knock down a couple beers before playing. It is no coincidence that the casino offers you free drinks while you play, they know the effects and now so do you! I mean you do not see Tom “Derr” Dwan showing up to High Stakes Poker sipping on a margarita.
Ok now let’s talk about an exit strategy. There is no defined strategy about when you should get up and leave the table. Most rookies will leave when they are barley positive in comparison to the amount of chips in play. They often employ the “quit ahead and chase behind” strategy which means they will quit with little winnings but keep playing when they arelosing a lot. This is exactly the opposite of what you should be doing. When you have a lot of chips in front of you, you have a moving table image you should use to get even more poker chips. On the other hand when you are losing everybody at the table notices that you are on tilt and takes advantage of you.
Now the next reason applies to both rookies and pros is playing in games against opponents that you know you cannot beat. This will kill your entire bankroll. This leads right into the next mistake which is keep your ego in check. I don’t mean to burst your bubble but the day you realize that you can learn a thing or two is the day you start on the road to becoming a real pro.
Next is simply playing way to many hands. Most rookies will play hands that pros would stay away from because they do not understand the value of starting with premium hands. Some will play a pair like 8-3 and give the reason “I played them because they were suited”.
One of the most important mistakes is playing on tilt. Daniel Negreanu once said “Tilt eats bankrolls for breakfast!” Well not only that but it will gobble up your life savings too if you’re not careful. A player on tilt will often chase miracle hands even when he knows he shouldn’t.
Finally, the number one rookie mistake is simply playing too many hours. I mean come on you would stay at your old nine to five job for 20 hours, so don’t do it at the poker table. Your mind will go into hibernate mode and you will convince yourself that you’re playing really well, even though everyone else is laughing at you.
So these are the top ten rookie mistakes made in the game of poker. If you catch yourself making these mistakes, well then it is time to go back to the books before you go to your next game. So have a good time, and don’t play like a rookie poker.
